excellent, easy to use editing May 26, 2008 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
There are a lot of inexpensive video editing packages around, it seems: many are easy to use as is Sony Vegas, some are unstable, unlike this package and all are to some extent limited. I use and have used a range of editing software for pc and mac and this can't actually compete with the likes of avid, but you wouldn't buy Sony Vegas for that purpose. I bought it because I purchased an SD card Camera and wanted to edit home videos on my home laptop. It is always daunting to have to learn how to use a new editing application, but the learning curve on Sony Vegas is not too steep and I was surprised with one thing in particular - namely the precision with which you can cut and position a clip. It seems a small point, but this feature is the most important element to editing because it means you can create a hard cut without having to play around with transitions to hide the edges, so to speak. The application has worked seemlessly for me, without crashes or hanging and no consequential loss of work. For this price, for what it does, it is excellent and out-performs many editing applications that cost more but are, nevertheless, unstable. My advice is to get a copy; you won't be dissappointed.
Amazing Package May 16, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is now an amazing price for this software. While I am only an amateur at video editing, I have been able to produce professional results with Vegas. Be aware when looking for books on this software that this is a cut down version of Sony Vegas Pro and not all options are available. I have tried various other reasonable priced video editing software and this beats it hands down. Multi layering, special effects and filters and DVD authoring are all supported. Be advised you need a reasonable spec machine for fast rendering.
Top Video Editing Software! April 11, 2008 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I've used alot of video editing software in my time and tried out so many different programs i cant remember them all!
Most of the other Editing programs on the market are a bit too focused at people who just want to put simple videos together with some fun and wacky effects! and dont get me wrong thats fine and sony vegas can do this as well as any other program! But i really like sony because of the clean User Interface! none of that flashy stuff with big buttons etc which just seem to slow down my PC!
It may look daunting to people at 1st if they are used to only using Windows Movie Maker, but it really is a simple yet powerful program which has lots of features you may not use to begin with but as you get better at least you have the option to use them!
I use it with my Sanyo HD700 which shoots in 720p Mpeg4! This requires alot of processing power to edit and can be difficult on my 1.6ghz laptop! So what i do is put the clips into vegas and output as 720p .avi file which is alot easier to edit and there is no loss in quality unlike encoding to another format! This codec costs alot on its own but its included with movie studio but limited to use within it!
Fast, stable & makes great DVDs April 5, 2008 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
The time line works differently to all the other packages, so I had to follow a few of the "show me how" features but it was well worth the effort. The interface is wonderful for getting things done in just a few clicks (e.g. drag with ctrl key to adjust the playback speed of a clip, no extra windows, no typing in frame rates). It has not crashed on me once after 4 months of intensive use, which is a very welcome surprise.
The bundled 'DVD Architect' is also superb, you can drag and drop stuff onto a template for a quick and easy disc, or you can change every conceivable parameter to get the exact professional look you're after.
