Ultimate Frustration February 2, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Save your money. Don't buy it. While the compilation of video and slide shows is relatively straightforward, the final "Make Movie" process is totally unreliable. So far my programme has ruined more discs than it's created. One example - replacing simple transitions in a slide show with green screen! I shall dump it and try Sony Vegas.
What a waste of money January 25, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this Pinnacle product for my son after Christmas after being recommended but after countless crashes we've finally given up. There are plenty of reasons why you shouldn;t buy this, just check out the other reviews!!!
I've subsequently bought Sony Vegas Platinum, the reviews for this product reassured me and it has been BRILLIANT.

STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU CRAVE FRUSTRATION January 14, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I made the MISTAKE of switching from Ulead 9 to Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11 - after reading some glowing reviews (I wonder if the reviewers were paid-off...?) Firstly, it fails to work properly with Windows Vista. Secondly, I spend hours downloading "patches" to fix problems - and judging by the numbers I have had so far (within the first 4 days), the problems already identified may be the "tip of the iceberg". Judge for yourself - go to www.pcle.com/selfhelp to have a glimpse at, what I believe, is just a sample of the hassles awaiting the existing and future buyers. Technical interface is just as pathetic: (a). Merging video from 2 or more sources (multiple capture files)quickly becomes a test of resilience and selfcontainment - the program is just poorly designed! (b).It takes ages to render the movie - in spite of using a seperate high capacity external hard drive and fast processor; (c). It is plagued with registrations - what for if one buys the top-of-the-range version? Worst is the fact that during the process, it frequently gives a message "...not connected to the internet..." prompting one to start all-over again. Conclusion - a perfect product to give to final-year IT students to find the bugs. A ready off-the-shelf star product? Definitely NO. A scar on the Avid brandname? For sure.
Stop - check out your format needs! December 31, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
There seems to be two approaches to handeling HD infomation. Sony uses one format (.m2t) while Pinnacle another (.m2v & .wav) and they are not compatible with each other. The latter cannot be played (with its associted sound file) in windows media player, or indeed any standalone player that I could find.
If you use Pinncale to capture, then you have to process the clip further (very time consuming)in order to view it anywhere else.
Whatever the pros and cons of each format, I don't always want to make movies out of every clip and conversly, I want to view the odd clip without having to start up Studio.
Wish I'd bought Sony Vegas
