Having used Norton Internet Security for years and whilst it's a very good and thorough internet protection software which has never let me down, it slows your machine down terribly. So coming up for a subscription renewal I thought I'd have a change. Checking out magazines and Amazon reviews pointed me in the direction of Kaspersky Internet Security. However, it's important if you are replacing Norton with any other internet protection to remove all traces of Norton. If you don't it can cause all sorts of conflicts with your new protection software. Add/remove doesn't remove all of Norton, so you need to download the special Norton removal tool from the Symantec website.
There are two install options for Kasperky, custom and default.
Custom is useful for people with a reasonable knowledge of computers; novices should use the default option which installs the essential stuff. You can change this later if you wish. Kasperksy installs quickly and effortlessly, then you get the updates online to complete your protection.
The first thing I noticed was that my computer responds much quicker, everything loading and opening much faster. Especially internet browsing.
The Kaspersky interface is simplicity itself, very user friendly. The protection runs in the background, unobtrusively giving you protection against a multitude of horrors, and updates itself with new signatures hourly. Because these updates are hourly they are only small files measured in Kb's rather than Mb's and as such have virtually no slowdown effect on your machine, plus the protection is right bang up to date.

Had Norton for last two years and computer was getting slower and slower so decided to change. The initial system scan did take a long time but after that loading programmes and web pages was much quicker. (I have windows xp)
The initial default settings are set to 'child' and not 'adult' so change if it doesn't let you load some web pages. Took me ages to figure that out!
Would highly recommend.

Had Norton, though it was slow.
got a brand new alienware top notch PC with XP pro.
Kapersky crashed windows within 2 minutes
I had to reinstall windows

For many years I have renewed my subscription of Norton's internet security without even thinking about it.
My PC became very sluggish. I couldn't find an explaination of why this was happening. People said that Norton is a culprit for guzzling processor power. I found this to be true.
I bought Kapersky on recommendation of a friend and haven't looked back.
Norton caused a very slow PC boot up and the system chugged when a virus scan was being performed.
Now my PC is running like a brand new machine. Kapersky is a fraction of the cost of Norton and you don't even notice it is there except when it matters.
I can't recommend this program enough. I get frustrated now when I see PC stores bundling Norton with their machines now.

After years of Norton slowing me down in every variation they launched, I switched to AVG. It came as the FREE version on a magazine cover mount and I never had any trouble with it. It was easy to use. Picked up dozens of problems and sorted them intelligently and easily.
But I was worried. Maybe it was too easy.
I looked around and found a lot of people raving about Kaspersky. I bought the Internet Security Suite (v7) a few months ago and it was quite expensive - well over 50. That felt reassuring.
It was relatively easy to install and I installed it on three machines - a one year old Compaq PC and a brand new E-System Vista PC for the office and a two-year old HP machine kept exclusively for gaming.
From that moment on I basically was unable to do any work for days on end - mounting into weeks. Frustration. Anxiety. Had I been crippled because of a massive virus attack? No, Kaspersky just ground my system to a halt. For about a month I fiddled with the different filters and levels of security trying to get it to leave me alone and let me get on with work.
Proactive defense is probably the worst part - it's an absolute nightmare. It keeps popping up with every single thing the computer is doing. Turn it off and leave it off if you've bought this.
Even beyond that the scans you're supposed to be able to schedule need a degree in project management to schedule effectively and to keep away from your work periods. Which is difficult if you're working day and night sometimes.
Online purchasing is next to impossible with even the most basic levels of protection in Kaspersky. Shopping on Viking Direct (office supplies), Amazon and Tesco (food retailer) are problematic. Complete the shopping carts and then - wait for this - you have to pause protection so you can put in your credit card number. This somehow seems completely at odds with what a security suite is meant to do. And speed on these shopping sites is very poor with Kaspersky installed.
I accept that I'm not a professional programmer, but I'm pretty good with Macs, PCs and have been using machines of all kinds since 1983.
I limped on for two more months, struggling with massive increases in computer support. Maybe two hours a dayu for weeks added because of Kaspersky. (That was a minimum. Three times in three months I had to spend two whole days uninstalling, reinstalling Kaspersky and other different programmes I was using because Kaspersky somehow foulded those up for me.)
But Kaspersky Internet Suit v7 is completely beyond my abilities. I feel depressed about it actually. I thought I was pretty good with PCs.
To cut this nightmare of a story short, I've uninstalled Kaspersky completely. It has had a fair shot in my life. Never again, Kaspersky.
Yes, I'm back with AVG. It's a dream. Tackles everything I want it to, tells me when there's a problem, updates it's library of definitions really fast, and just once a day. And it leaves me alone most of the time.
I've got my life back.
Maybe I'll reward AVG by upgrading to one of their other products.
If you're logical, thorough, systematic, good at figuring out complex crossword puzzles, able to interpret correctly that it's Kaspersky blocking your upgrade of Firefox every time there's an upgrade and NOT a Firefox problem... and if you realise that Kaspersky will never learn intelligently and will always go back to draconian levels of cover... then Kaspersky Internet Security is for you.
If you want an easy to use, thorough antivisurs suite that lets you get on with what you really want to do, do NOT buy Kaspersky Internet Security or Kaspersky Anti Virus. They will consume every waking hour of your life on the computer. Tell everyone NOT to buy Kaspersky - it is a nightmare waiting to happen.
In case you are wondering, I have no axe to grind against Kaspersky. I am not a programmer for a competitor. I'm a user who wants to protect their software at home and in my office. But I will NEVER use Kaspersky products ever again.
