1 out of 5 stars Buy this product at your peril   April 30, 2008

The first thing that is worth noting is that it will not work on Vista 64 even though it states it does. The other thing you need to know is that should your one vital piece of protection go wrong, you can get it fixed, and oh dear have Norton got it wrong. And when it comes to customer service it gets even worse. They must have the worst customer service in the world. They offer to call you if you fill in a form, you cannot complete the form as a UK telephone number will not fit in the box; as it converts it to a foreign number and there is not enough space. You can obtail a number but you have to fill in the form again first which you cannot complete. On emailing customer support they give you a number which guess what, is foreign and will not work. When you eventually get a number for them it is an offshore call centre who speak very slowly and grasp what you say once they put it through a translator. Be warned.

5 out of 5 stars Good software, quicker than 2005.   April 14, 2008

I bought this after having Norton Systemworks 2005 for the past few years. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a bit apprehensive, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. I uninstalled 2005 with the Norton Removal Tool before installing. It runs very much quicker than my old 2005 version, but of course doesn't come with the system tools which I found I rarely used anyway, and they aren't things I couldn't do myself - they just cut the leg work a little. I'm using Win XP home SP2, Athlon64 3500+, 1 meg Ram and works like a dream.

Oh, and after the reading the review below I can confirm it does work with Firefox (for me anyway!).

2 out of 5 stars Chews up your Internet allowance - DO NOT BUY   March 15, 2008

Since upgrading from NIS2007, my daily downloads have jumped hugely. This is solely down to NIS2008 - I blocked it from accessesing the Net and my downloads returned to normal.
It uses 350-400Mb PER DAY!!!
If you are on a limited download package with your ISP, DO NOT buy this product as it will single-handedly use the whole lot!
If you have a generous download limit, then it works ok - it's easy to set up and it works.

Overall, I would say go elsewhere though as I feel this is a design flaw - especially as NIS2007 worked just fine.

1 out of 5 stars Worse than useless   March 7, 2008

I have been a Norton user for a few years without problems. Until the upgrade to 2008. All of the problems others have listed slow performance etc. but to cap it all PC now infected with malware, spyware etc. NIS 08 missed most of em those it spotted it cant clear... hey though no problem they have experts who will fix it for you fpr 69.95.....Seems to me Norton has a lot in common with the Malware virus now. For me it is off to one of the other services recommended by equally unimpressed reviewers here. Oh one word of warning 08 only works with IE, if u use Firefox your surfing naked, shame that aint on the box either.

1 out of 5 stars Wont touch Norton again   March 3, 2008
3 out of 5 found this review helpful

I bought Norton almost a year ago as it was the one that seemed to be mentioned everywhere so I thought it must be brilliant. However, since I installed it, my PC has run very slow and I have had to reinstall it so many times it's not funny. It got even worse when it updated to the 2008 version.
The stupid thing is, is that although I have had it a year and I am a very active internet user, I can honestly say that I don't recall it ever detecting or preventing a single virus! I also have AVG installed and that has picked up about 200+ so it definitely wasn't worth the money when free software has done all the work.
Another thing is that I had to turn off the phishing protection and something else that kept popping up in the corner of my browser asking for a password, which was extremely irritating, as it slowed my browser down and every single time I went to a new page/site it would take forever!
It is due to expire in about 20 days thank god, but I wouldn't use it again even if I was paid to!
