5 out of 5 stars Pretty damn good!   November 29, 2007

Well the time had come. My subscription to NIS 2007 was up. Hmm Do I renew or upgrade to NIS 2008? I decided to go with the latest version so I unistalled 2007, got the Norton removal tool and ran that. Seriously UNISTALL the previous version first, run the removal tool and you're all set to go. I've noticed NIS 2008 runs faster than NIS 2007 and takes up less resources. NIS 2006 was one of the most bloated software Norton had ever released. They've obviously listened and rewritten the code base because NIS 2008 runs like a dream. It's fast and speedy and just does what it says on the side of the tin. The only thing I don't like is that it makes every decision for you. I like to be in a bit more control although if you delve deeper into this software you can still tinker if you want. Having said that, all the default settings are sound so just leave well alone. This is pretty much install and forget as it does it all for you.

5 out of 5 stars 2008 Best yet   November 23, 2007

Having tried Zone Alarm, Bullguard, McAfee, AVG and an older version of Norton I can say with some authoirty that this version of Norton is better than all of them. Why? Quite simply Norton have sorted out the speed - much faster.
Buy with confidence.
Just remember - remove all traces of previous security software. If you have McAfee - use their software removal tool - available to download on their website.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't detect spyware   November 17, 2007

I've recently got infected with spyware, adware and a trojan.vundo however everytime I ran NIS 2008, it reported it was clean. Had to download the free Superantispyware to get rid of all the spyware and adware. (This can be risky since it may corrupt startup files so only do this if you know what you're doing!!) Norton tech support always seemed to talk rubbish and wanted 70 to fix it! After paying 50 in the first place for it, you shouldn't have to give them any more to fix something which it should have picked up in the first place.

It does get 2 stars though because the identity safe feature is good and works quite well - about the only thing that does!

1 out of 5 stars it interfered with the DVD+RW drive   November 16, 2007

As soon as I installed the Norton Internet Security 2008 software my DVD+RW drive stopped working properly (the computer crashed whenever I used it) and restarted working only after I uninstalled. I had to return the Norton software, as the norton support could not help, and bought the MacAfee Internet Security suite which has worked well.

4 out of 5 stars Another Good Year!   November 1, 2007

I don't usually write reviews unless they are bad but on this occassion I wanted to write to say how pleased I am with this new Norton version. 2007 was a welcome relief from 2006 but this version is so much better again. Quick and easy to install and does not slow my machine down like 2006 did. I must admit I did consider other brands but I have always trusted Norton and this year they have come out with a product that has some cool new feautures. I particularly like that I can keep my passwords and identity safe and also the status of my wireless networks. The only thing that I would say is that I was given advice to use Nortons Removal tool to get rid of any previous versions which I had to download from the site. I think it is in the product but I wanted to be sure. This is why I am not giving it 5/5. All in all very good and would recommend.
