Very disappointed new symantec customer May 27, 2007 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
Only given it 1 star as I wasn't allowed to leave it blank. Cannot really say much as I'm still so furious! Purchased NIS 2007 for download just the other day. Simply cannot configure it at all, customer services utter rubbish, they promised to phone me back as I was paying for phonecall (1hr 30 mins to India!)and they never did, also spent 2 hours on the online chat technical support - very slow and frustrating. They won't reply to any emails. 49.99 down the drain. I don't feel it will ever be resolved as they don't care as long as they've got my hard earned cash. Please please please don't buy!!! If it doesn't work they won't help you. p.s. I'm not usually this miserable.
Update: they have now given me a refund thankfully!
Possibly the WORST Security software ever made May 22, 2007 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have used Norton Internet security (NIS) since 2002, with upgrades to 2005 and then upgraded to NIS 2007 in October 2006 - have had major problems since then. This IS the worst piece of Bloatware I have ever used. It slows down a fast Dell Pentium III PC and caused it to crash on numerous occassions. To remove it, the Norton Tech online team took control of my PC (as NIS 2007 does not uninstall easily, I tried without joy!) and they twice managed to crash the PC ("Blue Screen of Death"). I then had to TWICE re-install Win XP Pro. The Norton Tech team's response to this ? : "oh it is Dell's fault, contact them to help you" ! (Dell to their credit were fantastic, their Tech support team helped me get my PC recovered, took 2 days though !) Norton seem to blame EVERY other piece of software or PC hardware rather than acknowledge that it is their software that is the problem. Trust me, do NOT put this software on your PC, all may seem OK now, but if things go wrong, then God help you, because Norton will not. I finally removed NIS 2007 after the last re-install of Win XP after Norton crashed the PC. I have been using BitDefender IS v10. A great piece of software, quietly, quickly gets on with what it is supposed to do (NO connection with BitDefender, but good software deserves recognition). It does its job quickly, and secuely. I am crash free and Norton-free for 2 months now without any problems ! Also, it discovered 10 viruses and trojons that Norton 2007 missed !!!! So why get Norton? Well if you want a nice looking piece of software that looks "sexy" and helps to slow your PC but does not actually DO effectively what it is supposed to do, then please buy NIS 2007. If on the other hand, you want a good, relaible, non-intrusive Internet security programe get BitDefender, or other such system. After more than 5 years with Norton, I have lost faith with them, and will never get a piece of bloatware from them.

I have been a Norton user and a fan for the last 7 years, but my enthusiasm has taken a big dent with NIS 2007. Having encountered almost daily problems with the Anti Spam in NIS 2006 conflicting with Office Outlook 2003, I was told by their Sales Dept. that this had been overcome with 2007, and it mentions that it is O.K.with Outlook 2003 on their packaging! It comes as a free download from their website (free)once you find your way there! No problems installing as I had taken the precaution of downloading the information from the Symantec UK website and removed 2006 completely. However their effectuve Anti Spam add-in does nothing but cause havoc on a daily basis with my !Outlook! 2003. I get a message to say that Outlook has encountered a serious error and must close down. I am than informed that I need to close Norton Anti Spam as that is causing the problem so will I please disable it (though I can re-enable if I like!) Well I do like, and I am back at square one yet again. I have uninstalled and re-installed so many times I could do it in my sleep, but have got so fed up with Norton messing with Outlook, plus the fact that it is slow to load compared to previous versions, that I am now trying out Grisoft's AVG Internet Security 7.5. Early days, but I fear that my love affair with Norton may be finally over, and by the way there is a local rate UK Symantec telephone Support Line )Sept. 2004 "Which") because I refused to pay for something that was certainly not my fault!
Good If It Worked. April 17, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I've had Norton Antivirus 2006 for the whole of last year and it worked perfectly. I got an email from Symantec offering a discount on renewing it. I thought I may as well get an upgrade to this product but to my disappointment, it just will not work. I had to reformat my hard disk over 5 times. I installed Windows XP Pro without any glitches after about 4 times. It ran fine for hours and hours, but then I installed NIS 2007. It installed fine, ran Live Update, restarted and then it struck. Two or three minutes uptime, as you're about to check your emails or whatever, the screen will go blank. My PC reset. It got to the desktop, and gave me an error message which told me there was a problem with the video device driver even though there wasn't one installed. It reset again after another couple of minutes and gave another error message, so I uninstalled NIS 2007, and guess what, the driver problems magically fixed themselves.
Apart from that the interface is pretty easy to use. It has the vista style buttons at the top of the window which is yellow. Looking good isn't good if the stupid thing doesn't work.
I cannot connect to the internet so I'm very limited in what I can do. I entered a "Live Chat" with some Symantec technicians, who were all Asian, and I am not racist at all, but they were pretty useless.
I'm going to wait until I've finished my GCSE exams and then I'll try to fix this monstrosity. My suggestion is if you have a pre-made system go for it, but be careful and make sure all your important documents are backed up. If your PC is custom made like mine then be extremely careful.
I'm giving this product 2 stars instead of 1 because I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt in that it may work for other users.
Easy Install - Anti Spam Download March 24, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am disappointed with Norton.
Briefly, I have found it difficult to see whether I could purchase this product (Norton kept offering me a 2 year updgrade). After finally purchasing the 1 year upgrade, I found it quick to install and have seen no loss in processing power or boot-up time. However I have not yet installed the add-on download for spam, parental control etc, which I understand may increase the load. The free download is not easy to find but can be found in the Customer Service section - search for "anti spam download". Finally, the interface itself, I do not like, it is not as straight-forward to use as the NIS 2006. Settings are a little less-obvious to find.
