1 out of 5 stars Upgrade issues   March 17, 2007

I've been using McAfee Virus Scan for several years and it worked well. After buying a new Dell computer I tried the recent "free" upgrade to Suite 2007. I had all sorts of install problems prompting me to contact support three times via Internet Chat. All three failed to clear up the install problems which also deleted my older version. I received a two page email from a support supervisor which had over 8 links to visit and involved altering the MSConfig and Register files to correct the problem. But it didn't. I'd wait to up grade if you are thinking about doing so. Cause right now I'm without the protection I need and paid for.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY IT FOR SPAMKILLER   February 15, 2007
8 out of 10 found this review helpful

It doesn't do what it says on the tin, this "upgrade" is actually a downgrade from old V6, especially if you are expecting it to filter spam. The McAfee help boards are not very helpful if you expect solutions.
Where v6 allowed you to set up global filters that caught spam sent to certain addresses or that included a selection of spam words, v7 is crippled with only 4 options available and no help setting up filters that are more complex than one word. Worse, all spamkiller now does it helpfully stick [SPAM] onto the subject line and dump it in your inbox, at least before you could set it so you never saw the spam unless you went to your blocked email listing.
If you are buying this because you think it will be an improvement, don't. To my mind its soley designed to make the product easier to support and has lost most of the features that made it useful... and as the McAfee help board says "once you have upgraded to 7 there is no way back to 6.
A corporate foot shooting in progress.

1 out of 5 stars dissapointed with McAfee   January 29, 2007

I decided to buy the Mcafee suite 2007 when my Norton IS 06's subscription ran out (also very dissapointing). I had previously had Mcafee 2005 before I had Norton and was very pleased with it. As soon as I'd installed this on my PC i noticed the difference straight away. Everything slowed down to a toddlers pace and quite a few sites I tried to get on would not seem to load at all. After a week I'd already had enough and decided to uninstall. I bought the Panda internet security 2006 (which gives you a free update to 2007) and my PC has gone right back to normal like it was before I installed Norton!! I wouldn't reccomend this to my worst enemy, honestly...

2 out of 5 stars Security Suite 7 Seems Flaky   January 16, 2007

After purchasing Security Suite 7 I found the installation procedure was very quick and efficient. Unfortunately I could no longer access the Internet! Also The Outlook process would no longer shut down (it left the process hanging). A great deal of time later via mcAfee 'chat' support and the problems were not resolved. I wouldn't use the telephone support as it is far too expensive. In the end I had to completely disable the privacy service, and disbale integration of the antispam toolbars into Outlook. All in all it does find some viruses and malware, but I wouldn't buy Privacy Service unless I was desperate. The user interface is very slow, as is the free support, which is torture and didn't solve any of my problems. Check the web for comments on McAfee Privacy Service before you buy!

4 out of 5 stars This is a very competent Security Suite   December 21, 2006

Regardless of the more negative reviews of this product, it is very effective indeed. I don't know why some people reluctantly begrudge having to install firewall / anti-virus software on their PCs. You wouldn't leave your house everyday with all your personal belongings inside, with the door unlocked or open would you ? No, quite right; a security suite is fundamental on your PC and this is a very good one.

It has many good features, which you may or may not wish to use. It is a particularly good piece of software for installing on your kids computers. It gives you plenty of parental control and information about good and bad websites and their type of content.

Contrary to opinion, it does not slow your PC down dramatically. It is always running and therefore will take up some PC resources. Much of this depends on how much RAM you have, the power / speed of your PC and the download / upload speeds of your broadband connection.

I have used most of the new Security Suites in my job including Steganos, Kaspersky and Norton etc. I recommend McAfee for it's ease of setup, it's ease of use and it's functionality. It is a very good product and well worth the investment.
