2 out of 5 stars Unreliable, buggy and no support from Acronis   October 12, 2008
I'm running a Vista system and am trying to use Acronis for backups.

The user interface is confusing but once you get the hang of what it is trying to do then it is usable. It has the nice idea of specified backup locations, these have quotas such as size and number of backups etc. The problem is that it doesn't work properly. It usually hangs when it tries to delete old backups, so fails to keep to the quotas.

Setting up a small backup of 3 directories every hour resulted in the disks hammering continually and my process tables full of Acronis processes, seemingly doing nothing. I am currently running a backup that has been stuck at "18 seconds remaining" for half an hour now. I have no idea what it thinks it is doing.

I reported the quota problem to Acronis a few weeks ago, absolutely no response from them. Not a good sign. I downloaded the latest build but it made no difference.

Two stars rather than one because the backups did work when I tested them, and it would be a nice piece of software if it actually worked properly. Alas buggy backup software just isn't worth the risk in my opinion. The problems may be Vista specific, so it may be OK for XP.

5 out of 5 stars First class piece of software   October 4, 2008

True Image 11 is a first class piece of software. It performs perfectly in Windows Xp Pro. Everything I could have asked it did seamlessly and more. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this software.

2 out of 5 stars Not up to the hype   August 31, 2008

First the good news : Easy to install on XP and the interface seems user friendly. Now the not so good news : Despite running incremental backups every week for several months when I actually needed to use the product it did not restore all of the data and hung at 97% completion. Perhaps foolishly I tried again and was informed that the backup was corrupted. Gave up. Reinstalled the OS and system software the old fashioned way and am manually backing up data every week onto external HDD. On reflection I think this software gave me a false sense of security.

1 out of 5 stars Useless piece of software!   August 29, 2008

This sounded like a great idea. However after installing and performing a full back up on my new high spec PC. I disappeared for a few hours and came back to discover all my personal data had disappeared- photo's documents etc.

I tried to restore the backup to find it hadn't worked after all even though the closing box said it had completed successfully.

Its a good job I had got a spare data backup on another external hard drive, but I still lost all the work I done that afternoon.

I have uninstalled the software and will contact Amazon to see if can get a refund.

Acronis still haven't got back to me!

Rubbish all round!

I've used Acronis True image 11 for cloning my Laptop hard drive after 2 attempts with Norton Ghost 10 none worked so used Acronis worked first time. I've also used it to clone USB dongle's with no problems at all.. So easy to use with all the right options.
Running Windows XP pro
