Amazon.co.uk Review
The 3D Gamemaker Lite is a great introduction to the world of homemade games. There is nothing complicated or tricky to this CD-ROM, and within minutes of loading the programme on your PC you could be playing games you've created.

Also available as a full version, this special edition is designed to introduce the user to the basics of game making. There is no programming involved as The 3D Gamemaker Lite utilises an easy-to-use graphical interface that gives you the ability to produce a very simple first-person shooter, or racing game, in a matter of minutes. By selecting the type of game you want from the graphic buttons on the screen, and then selecting, in the same fashion, your weapon, enemy, food type, environment and so on, you can bring your own creative vision to life. For example, a first-person shooter set in a nice gothic church, with the objective of collecting all the potions you can find and having a man in a suit beating you up while you shoot him with a banana! That's the fun you can have with this product. There are also a number of pre-built games for you to try so you can de-construct them and see how the professionals do it, gathering tips as you go.

There are plenty of pre-made graphics and sounds for use within the games, or you have the choice to create you own and insert them into your game--including MP3 files. You can then save all this in a single executable file to distribute to your friends and show off your skills. The product can also be upgraded to the full version. --Robert Hyde

1 out of 5 stars I wanted to make MY own games...   February 23, 2006

First of all, I paid money for a demo. Second of all, it's the worst demo I have ever been on. Basically, 3D Gamemaker Lite consists of the user choosing one of GM's pre- approved games out of a selection of four. All of them have to be one level long and have a boss at the end, even if it's a racing game... Users must then choose things such as enemies and bullet types from a list of pathetic ?comedy? selections e.g. one of the bosses is called 'Mr. Poo'... Once it has finished making its own game for you to reluctantly pass off as being your own, you find out how depressingly poor the games are. First person shooting games consist of the player walking around a maze, shooting e.g. blue balls from an inanimate banana at clones of a tax collector who fire diamonds at you from their stomachs, all to awful dance music. Flying games involve you flying in a highly restricted area, shooting enemies. I don?t know what the full version is like, but whatever you do don?t buy the demo?

1 out of 5 stars Dissapointing   November 26, 2003

I think it was silly to release a lite version and this version is stupid, I don't like it it is poor. But the 3D Gamemaker full is a better choice.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad, but still not what I'd hoped for.   August 30, 2002
When I saw this, I thought, 'Great! This looks really good!' But when I started it, I saw that the graphics were rubbish, and there really is very little on the CD. What was the point of releasing this version, when there is a bigger version available { and I didn't know until I quit this addition!]
It does however, provide some fun for a while, with the diferences of characters and enemies, but there just is no difference between them. They all walk and jump and fire. It would have been nice to create some moves yourself. Its the same for the scenery. The races are dull. Areas can be slow going.
However, I do not think its rubbish, and I think to share the games with your mates is a good option, and so is the 2 player.
The option to have your name as a creator is also fun to have.
I'm sure the younger kids will enjoy it!

1 out of 5 stars What a pile of ****   June 3, 2002

I liked the look of this when I saw the packaging, ('just click to create', 'unleash your imagination', et al), but the package is the best thing. There are 4 game styles to choose from, (1st person, space shooter, driving, platform-type), nothing wrong with that, except that each one is the same as the others apart from different graphics.
The only redeeming feature of this program is that it is possible to have an old granny driving a powered wheelchair as your final level 'boss' (only one level allowed, though, I'm afraid).

4 out of 5 stars It's good!   February 22, 2002

I think that this is excellent! It's not as good as the larger version but it certainly gives novice game makers a run for their money! I reccomend it!
