Amazon.co.uk Review The 3D Gamemaker's easy-to-use graphic interface introduces the world of game making to those without a background in programming--you simply choose from a series of options to produce the game you desire. Also available in a special edition lite version, this CD-ROM allows you to easily create your own game within minutes. By selecting from a series of pre-made options (including character, weapon, environment and enemy) the user can produce, for example, a first-person shooter or a racing game. One nice option is the "magic game" in which the computer chooses a set of random options and you play the resulting game that can produce some really interesting results. Once familiar with the options you can start to play around with the different elements--graphics and sound can be added to the interface (helpfully, the sound can be in the popular MP3 format to save on space) meaning you can create all your characters and objects using a graphics package, and then insert them into the game and manipulate them if you wish. The environment can also be changed, and with the simple use of the editor you can create you own 3-D world, then place the objects you have created in it. No game is complete without an array of weapons; your own personal selection can be created and given varying degrees of strength and impact damage. In all there are plenty of options to keep a gamer going for a while. Tidy up your game by creating some title screens, have a high-score display, set difficulty modes and so on. Once everything for the game has been set to your liking you can save it down into a single executable file for easy distribution to your friends. The 3D Gamemaker interface used is easy and fun to use, though it is very much aimed at the novice game maker. There is often a feeling that there is a lack of control over different aspects of the game creation process, and experienced programmers could get frustrated with this controlled environment and the restriction over certain gaming elements. On the other hand, this package is an easy introduction to game making for those without programming knowledge. --Robert Hyde

Great stuff, a bit limiting. January 14, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This product is really fun to use and so are the games but some of the games can seem really buggy, and it takes ages to fix them. There is a lack of instruction on how to do it but you ca make fun games if you give it some time. It is really really easy to use, you just choose one thing and mix it with another and there are pre-mixed ones. This is great for personal use, a bit of fun, but if you want to sell games with this you won't get alot of money because the game just arnet good enouth and the executables don't let you sell it (there's a pop-up) but it's great software for game begginers or a birthday present. IF you want a liscente to sell them you should go to www.thegamecreators.com .
Simple, easy and GREAT for beginners July 28, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
With this you can create shooter, space, driving, jungle games and more with a variety of objects and levels to choose from. You can also import your own objects, photo's or music to make them more personalised. You can have a maximum number of 20 levels, (which I found was more than enough) and you can edit the textures and add coloured mist to change the feel of the level. Objects and characters can also be altered, and enemies can be made harder to kill and smarter if you find the game too easy. Free stuff for making games can also be downloaded from the website.Another bonus is the scene editor where you can create your own levels, but don't get too excited because the levels are very simple and don't quite match up to the levels that have come with the software. The placement tool is also great for putting the objects wherever you want in a level, but I found there was a limit to how many objects and enemies you could have in each level, which is annoying. When you've finished a game you can copy it onto a disk or send it to your friends by email. I would say it's great for beginners because it's simple and doesn't require code, but eventually you'll probably want to move up onto better software. The 3D graphics are a good bonus, but they could be better, and eventually you'll find you've done everything you can and the games will soon all end up looking the same.
JUST ONE LEVEL!!!! June 9, 2004 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Whatever idiot thought that you could only make one level should realy look more closely! If they had looked more closely they would have found that if they clicked the down arrow by their selected 1st scene and continued down the would have found an section where they can have up to 20 levels! This software is basic but still very good i spend countless hours fiddeling with the hundreds of different options. In my opinion this software is a great buy and deserves more than what others are saying about.
I expected too much March 21, 2004 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was hoping to get a piece of software to make games with. This, I found, looked good enough. But when I actually got to trying it out my hopes were flushed away. This software's title would have been better as "game chooser" because that is basicly what it is. It gives you a list of game types, players, collectables and enemies to put in your game and then lets you test it all out, not exactly what I call making a game at all! The gameplay also sucks when trying out the game that you "made". The keys arn't sensitive enough and it is very annoying when you hit things. It is amazingly easy and boring with just one level and you cant seem to win once you have completed your objective... The graphics are possibly the only thing thats good about it since it consists of 3D pictures which look very nice. On the whole, if you were looking for something that you could make your own games with dont buy this, But its a bit of a waste of money anyway!
exactly what it says on the tin October 16, 2003 2 out of 12 found this review helpful
it does exactly what it says on the tin, nothing more, nothing less. it makes boring, basic, one-level games.Absolutely pathetic, i regret buying it.
