5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Piece Of Software   November 20, 2008
X-OOM Movies on iPod 2 will record and transfer any web-TV shows onto an iPod(tm) or iPhone(tm), to avoid missing favourite programmes. The software searches through over 1000 sports, music, comedy and entertainment channels, as well as sites such as YouTube and MySpace, so programmes and clips can be downloaded to an iPod(tm) or iPhone(tm) in just a few clicks. There is also the option to regularly subscribe to the 1000 frequently updated video podcasts, to ensure favourite shows aren't lost.

An integrated media library provides a helpful solution for collectively viewing all video files stored on a computer. The library includes customisable pre-defined settings, to allow straightforward transfer and modification of video clips. X-OOM Movies on iPod 2 also includes the option to rip just the audio from a video file, so favourite music from films and TV programs can be saved and listened to when on the move.

The program is easy to navigate and such a good idea. I would heartily recommend it to anyone.

3 out of 5 stars Good features, annoying flaws.   November 20, 2008

I recently bought an iPod touch, choosing it over contemporaries and competitors because of its big screen suitable for watching movies. I downloaded trial software to rip my DVDs to my PC in order to allow me to watch films. Whilst this worked, the words "TRIAL VERSION" stamped across my screen became aggravating, and I quickly obtained Movies on iPod 2. The software is full of features, such as ripping films from DVD, file conversion, audio file extraction and streaming downloads- some features of which weren't available in any other software packages.

In most of the above areas, this software functions beautifully. I can now download from YouTube and gametrailers and other video streaming sites seamlessly, conversion is easy and the video editing functions are great. Its all easy to use, fast and reliable.

The problem comes when ripping films. I have a large DVD collection, some of which I would greatly appreciate being able to make portable. It is essentially my sole reason for getting a product such as this. Unfortunately though, there is a flaw. The product refuses to rip any DVD with a security protection function: that is any DVD you buy from a store. The manual- whilst comprehensibly English, suffers from occasionally wording errors.

"If you have inserted a DVD with copy-protection, you may not be able to read out the video from this DVD... In this case a message box opens.

Alternatively, click the button next to Source drive to manually select the drive."

The alternative solution is actually referring to a previous paragraph, and not the one mentioning copy protection.

Its a fully functioning piece of kit- provided that ripping commercial DVDs is not your intention. I appreciate the anti-piracy motives behind this action, but it makes the software feel slightly useless; particularly when the function is available from other software companies.

The file conversion software is, however, extremely good.

2 out of 5 stars Very Poor   November 20, 2008

This is a realy bad piece of software, the documentation is virtually non existant and unhelpful. The solution fails to convert most of the DVD or movie files I have.

2 out of 5 stars Underwhelming   November 19, 2008

A bit of an odd one this, unlike some other reviewers this software gave me no moments of horror - more a feeling of pointlessness. I've used freeware for movie conversion in the past and thought this may provide the same functionality but with a bit more polish. I thought wrong. It's as rough edged and clunky as most freeware and no where as good as some.

Initially things seemed promising, it installed fine but then the automatic update did not work. Hmm. Downloaded update from website myself. My first effort was thwarted by the fact it wants your iPod to be attached while it's converting files - mine was at work. The following night I converted an AVI to iPod format with little trouble, but it does appear to hang for a moment or too. Next I try a non-copy protected DVD. No joy. I simply could not get it to work - then it crashed itself and iTunes (which it runs alongside itself). After restarting my PC I decided I'd had enough.

Movies on iPod 2 may be cheap but it doesn't really do what I'd expect it to and is 'fussy' in use - I recommend you look elsewhere if you want movies on your iPod. In a word: underwhelming.

2 out of 5 stars bit disappointing   November 19, 2008
unfortunately the program doesnt do what i imagined and was very excited about! I had dreams of transfering all my dvd collection onto my ipod so i could 'watch my movies on the go' but i didnt realise that it does not allow copyrighted dvds, so basically all dvds.....and therefore that was that! Have discovered i can download youtube for my ipod, so have been searching on there for things, but i dont know if it is my computer being slow or the program but it does take ages and you do have to be very patient! not quite what i had in mind unfortunately, maybe they can change it and release a better version, the concpt of it is fantastic though.
