Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Take a warp-speed trip to the future with Star Trek Encyclopedia, a two CD-ROM set that covers the history, science and people of the United Federation of Planets--not to mention their many allies and enemies. Watch a biography of Captain Picard, browse the plans of the original Enterprise or evaluate the terrifying Borg menace for yourself. Virtually everything a Trek viewer would ever want to know is available in this program.

Star Trek Encyclopedia covers all of the Trek films up to Star Trek: Insurrection, along with detailed information about the live-action series. Its database extends to the fifth season of Star Trek: Voyager. What's more, a great deal of care is taken to distinguish between facts that are "canon"--that is, explicitly detailed in the series or films--and those that have merely been extrapolated from evidence provided in those shows. With thousands of video clips, photos, technical schematics and articles, this program has everything a user might need in order to become a certified Star Trek expert.

With such a huge volume of information to cover, it's no wonder that the Star Trek Encyclopedia is not absolutely unabridged. The program doesn't cover Star Trek's animated series, which is a shame, nor does it provide a list of the many tie-in novels associated with the Trek franchise. The interface for the program is frustratingly non-intuitive, though its official Starfleet look is appealing. Even with these few gaps, the vast amount of data that is included makes this a resource that no true fan of Star Trek should be without. --Alyx Dellamonica, Amazon.com

I own a copy of this and I have to say that it is much better than I had anticipated. The interface is very swish, and the content is presented in a high level of detail, filling eagar minds with even more useless facts to non-impress friends and family. All in all, a very sound package that really does make you want to read more. If you dont like Star Trek however, then you should probably not buy this, as there is very little else within at all :)

Star Trek Encyclopedia uses a clever star-trek style interface, which is almost exactly like the consoles on the show...if you like that kind of thing. But purple on pink tends to hurt your eyes after a while, and the annoying bleeps and bloops should destroy your ears in no time. As for the software itself? It's packed full of star trek history, pictures, sound files, video clips...but it all tends to become a bit tedious after a while. Not bad, but lacks a bit on the intrest side.
