I can't crack it but hopefully someone with a lot of time and a techie mindset will have a lucky day when they find it in Oxfam.
Take Care... October 11, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes, this is a good product BUT it has some problems.
First, the sound is not all it can be given reproduction on CD is bass heavy (and we're talking Quad 909/99 and Gyro Dec with an SME 4 arm plus an Ortofon cartridge AND a special cable from a HiFi specialist). It means you have faff about so as to get the CD to sound like the Lp.
Secondly, the manual is not at all clear. You have to know what you're doing or have an idea what you want entails. (I wrote and managed software for years, so believe me I know what I'm talking about.)
Thirdly, I preferred the 2003 version, which allowed one to scan in Lp covers for CDs - this doesn't.
frustrating waste of money July 27, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This program is the most frustrating & infuriating thing that I've ever encountered - basic problem being that tech support is no longer provided by the original UK distributors Fasttrak (in Watford). You have to e mail Germany - could phone but who can afford it as you'll probably be on the line for hours. I had 2 successful burns to CD since which time I've just had error messages such as, CANNOT SET SESSION PARAMETERS / CANNOT SET R/W DATA FOR LIA, possible reasons for which ~ recording speed too high, damaged CD/R, driver trouble, problem with oversized CD-R's. Tech support suggested downloading patch called Burnroutine which didn't destroy the system nor did it solve the problem. I have been using Philips blank CD's - 700 Mb - 52x certified speed & even an attempt using Windows media player failed, the reason given that the file couldn't be read due to being encoded (by whom ?) or compressed...Thank god I only paid 10 off Amazon web site for this piece of rubbish - probably cheap because it's 2005 version & not in a box as I have seen it in PC world. It just arrived in a DVD box with brief instruction booklet - phone numbers for Fasttrak are listed but they can't help, although I did speak to one person who remembered the program. No cables were provided but you get one if you register - I wanted to get started, so bought cable from Maplins. Cable from Fasttrk arrived 2 weeks after registering. What should have been a fun hobby has now turned into a nightmare / pain in the ass - I have been told about a free to download program called Audacity, so I'll try that.
An Improvment to an Already Great Program June 21, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having been a user of Version 1 of Audio Cleaning Lab, I was always impressed with the simplicity of use and its stability so I went for the 2005 version. It is very similar to earlier versions but has a few improvements such as Unlimited MP3 encoding, one of the great features of ACL has always been being able to alter and manipulate the waveform and tracklist in real time even while playing the music. I would advise you to experiment when using cleaning effects as setting them too strong can adversly affect the sound quality, If used correctly ACL will give very good results for a little effort. Also the Timer record function is a very welcome addition. On the negative side, The Software does drop a star for me for 2 reasons, 1) If you burn an MP3 CD directly from magix you cannot create directories for the various albums or tracklists so you just get a very long CD, In my opinion the best way is to export the files and use Nero (or similar burning software) for doing this type of CD. 2) You cannot edit ID3 Tag for MP3 files but you can when exporting or burning WMA files.
Brilliant stuff! April 30, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I can't agree with any criticism of this product, it handles any media file with ease. Simple to understand and use. Converts between formats, improves old recordings, sparkles up low bitrate mp3's. SPEND A BIT OF TIME, READ THE MANUAL and experiment a bit! (back up your files first). I have converted over 400 of my vinyl albums to cd using this program. I have tried other restoration programs which are far more complex and slower to render files. BUY IT!
