Power DVD 5 Deluxe is really good for doing the basics such as playing DVD movies and CD Audio. It also has support for other file types like mp3, so it is more than just a standard DVD player and more like a complete media player package.It has a wide variety of audio options that will please everyone. It can produce all kinds of stereo and surround effects in software that can give extra depth and zing to your music files. I don't really use these much as most of the effects are similar to ones that my soundcard will produce anyway, but if your soundcard doesn't already provide for them then they are a good bonus. The player supports Dolby Digital and DTS out of the box, so if you have a good speaker setup you are well catered for.
The player has some video effects, such as 'CLPV' for stretching or compressing the picture to fit your monitor, but to be honest the only one I use much is the 'CLEV' bit that sort of brightens up dark films so you can see what is going on far more clearly.
If your PC is up to or better than the minimum specifications this is a great package. Doesn't crash, plays all kinds of formats, loads of sound options, and has some really good video effects too.
