Amazon.co.uk Review Make no mistake, DJs are the "Pop Stars" of the 21st Century. DJs spend more money on turntables, mixers and CD players than traditional musicians spend on guitars, and several software companies have developed applications designed to cash-in on this phenomenal wave of DJ-orientated technology. During the last four years, computer applications like Mixman have had worldwide success. More recently, Fasttrak Software have had a great deal of success with their PC-only Dance E-Jay series. Requiring a 4-speed CD-ROM drive, Pentium 66 or higher, Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0, plus 16MB of RAM and a miniumum of 65MB of free hard space, Dance eJay 2: Techno Edition will turn any beige, conformist, boring PC into a heaving, thumping acid house of groovy sounds. It allows you to import .WAV sound files (known in the trade as "samples") and combine them to create self-contained "grooves" or riffs. The Techno Edition version comes with no less than 3,500 samples from the "skools" of Techno, Ambient, Uplifting House and Big Beat. You need a 16bit Soundcard which is DirectSound compatible to hear the great library of samples supplied on the Dance E-Jay 2 CD. All the samples have been recorded at 140 BPM (Beats Per Minute). There, however, a Timestretch facility which allows you to vary the tempo of each sample between 120 and 160BPM. Combining different samples together could not be simpler: Dance E-Jay 2 uses very clear and helpful graphics which emulate a 16-track recording studio. Not only can you combine and loop samples, but you can also add sound effects such as reverb and echo. Many of the samples are excellent--though with over 3,000 to choose from, you'd expect there to be the odd turkey, which there is. Dance E-Jay 2 features a sub-page called "Hyper Generator II" which is a software-based synthesizer capable of creating wild noises and then sequencing them into patterns which can be used alongside your samples. Priced reasonably, this is a fun piece of software that will get your creative juices flowing. --Chris Everard

Hours of fun for all the family September 19, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great program. If, like me, you like the idea of making your own music this is what you want. It is very simple to use and after only half an hour you have a chart topping track (Well mabye not quite). Anyway it's great fun. The only problem is - as stated on the box is that it is very addictive. I am always on it improving old songs or writting new ones.In short - BUY IT!
