Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Meet Mr Site, who genuinely offers a takeaway solution to the thorny problem of updating and refreshing your internet web presence. Don't have one? What's a presence? Goodness me. Don't you know what year it is? Well sit down and we'll tell you a story... Mr Site is, in short, one helluva guy. He's not only got it upstairs in the brains department, but delivers real results on the ground, too, making his legendary website-in-a-box among the most innovative we've yet witnessed. In short, Mr Site will help you design and build a professional looking website in next to no time for next to no money. Golly. It works a little like this: Buy box and go online. Enter code in box to access simple step-by-step process. Then develop your very own customised and professionally designed dot.com website with cutting edge features including jukebox, shopping cart, media player and the like. In no time at all. For no extra cost at all. No geeks. No guys called Zak. No expensive calls to helpdesks in San Francisco or Mumbai. The process of 'design', often shrouded in great secrecy by web agencies who deploy smoke and mirrors to keep mere mortals in the dark, is very simple with Mr Site. Simply choose and register a name, select from hundreds of professional site designs, insert your photos, music and copy (that's text to you and me) and hey presto. Then all you need to worry about is keeping it fresh and updated (to keep visitors coming back) and signing up for a ?2.50/month subscription after your first 12 months is up. And everybody lived happily ever after.

1 out of 5 stars A product that doesn't do what it says on the box!   November 5, 2008
1 out of 2 found this review helpful

As a new business start-up I spent some time researching my options before choosing to purchase this software. It had all the right messaging on the box about how easily I could create a website, the main tagline on the box says it "Everything you need to get the website you want online..... and it's seriously easy to use" - don't you just love the marketing people??

Well the box is where it starts and finishes for me - there are so many things wrong with this product that it's hard to know where to begin.

Don't be fooled by the price tag, the software is cheap because it is very basic and it's all done online (something they don't tell you on the box). You see Mr Site is not even an application you can install on your notebook or desktop - in order to use it you have to connected to the internet at all times and log in to the application. My plan was to install the software on my laptop and design as I go - I spend quite a bit of my time travelling and thought it would be an ideal time when sitting in airport lounges and on trains to get on with my website - how wrong was I? The only way I can use the software is when I am at home, in the office or have internet connection.

The templates are very basic and modifying them requires some skill and patience as you have to go back and forth a lot to try and see how the finished template will look - a simple preview would have been ideal. The application is very clunky to use and it heavily dependant on your connection speed. The upload times of pages can be at times very slow - I guess that's dependant on the number of users logged in on the server! It does say that you can design your own website and upload to the domain you have chosen - I thought this would be the right thing for me since I didn't like the "ready-made" templates. Uploading pre-created pages is a nightmare - I ended up spending a fortune on the telephone speaking to the "support" staff - in the end I got my new pages uploaded but by default I can no longer see my home page. This task is complicated and not for the non-tech savvy.

Which brings me on to my last point...support. The cornerstone of any good business is the service that the customer is provided, whether its at the time of pre-sales, at the time of purchase or once the customer has the product. Mr Site is oblivious to this point completely, once they have your money they could not care less. The service is poor, the communication terrible and the cost extortionate. I have had this software for nearly 18 months, long enough to form a valid view of the application and to be quite honest I would much rather have purchased a hosting package elsewhere as this would have been much cheaper and reliable.

Since purchasing this product I have come across an alternative which does actually do what it says on the box WebSite X5 Evolution (PC) and I could not be happier with my choice.

I think Mr Site should re-evaluate and reconsider their product tagline - "The world's favourite website in a box." Who are you kidding? Not me that's for sure!

2 out of 5 stars Very frustrating!!!   November 4, 2008
I would advise people to only buy this product if you want a very basic website as it does not really give you many options for adding your own style but what I have found the most frustrating is the fact that I can never get access to their own website as they seem to have server problems most of the time. Also with the support they give you it takes them about 48 hours to get back to you - the old saying goes "you get what you pay for".

5 out of 5 stars Can't rate it highly enough   November 4, 2008
Like another reviewer, I was nearly put off buying this product by some of the negative comments. SO glad I wasn't. Received product in the post at 10.00am today. It is now 1.30pm and my website is up and running, email working, Paypal link working. I am absolutely delighted. It was simple to use, you can view what you're doing as you go along and amendments are easy too. If I had to make one criticism it would be that switching from "creative" to "simple" mode loses your formatting. Come and see my website - cpcardcompany.co.uk. (Amazon will probably remove my web address, lol!!)

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected   November 1, 2008
I hardly know about html and ftp and junk, which was why I brought Mr Site since it claimed to be easy to use without any bother.
Mr Site has a relatively good deal. Not only can you make your website, but they have reserved a space for you with on their webspace from only 2.90 per month. You also get a free domain name.
Okay, that's good, I thought, since when researching I found the other web hosters had ridiculus charges (I remember reading one charging over 14 for webspace), and others are obvious fakes.
However, the product seems to have major problems. It's very difficult to just delete pages or just to move them. They're not really realiable either; it's hard to even contact them for a simple question.
Other than that, Mr Site's alright if you just want to make cheap website, but is rubbish if you want professionalism.

Note: Website X5 is surprisingly much easier to use, and you don't need a web connection to create your website on it. It's not a webhoster though, so you'll have to buy your own domain name and webspace.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional Value!   October 7, 2008
I was looking for a simple, efficient and easy to maintain website and I can really say I found it with this product! It's simple, quick and it takes minutes to update which is perfect for a small business! 100% recommended.
