3 out of 5 stars Dates but it works   November 26, 2008

Hmm I purchased this product as it says 2009! But I am sure this would have been modern in 2000 but not now. Well dated. There are better programmes. Ok the CD works websites can be made but the programme in not up to 2009 standard.

4 out of 5 stars Very good, especially for experienced website designers   November 26, 2008

As a person with some experience building web pages the old fashioned way, I felt my way round this website builder intuitively. In my understanding of how pages must be linked in a structure, I knew what to look for and I had my mock up DVD and music catalogue done in little over 2 hours (I have a lot of DVDS). There were functions and displays that I have never even used before! So there's new stuff even for the more experienced designer. If you are a person coming to build a website for the very first time, you might find the interface less intuitive to pick up compared to someone more advanced. But that is where the tutorials would come in useful. New users have to learn somewhere and I think this package is a good place to get started.

I also noticed a tool to build shopping baskets for online shopping. So, theoretically any new online business could start to use this software to build their new online shop/business.

So all in all plenty to use for a wide range of web design requirements and applications.

1 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this - but was let down!   November 22, 2008

First, let me state my position. I have been building websites for nearly 10 years. I started, like so many people did, with Geocities. I have fond memories of the old 'WYSIWYG' (what you see is what you get) editor. I eventually graduated to the world of 'Flash' and never looked back.
Sadly, Serif Internet Design 2009 is a relic that does not compete with the range of current software. The packaging looks great and based on it, I was certainly looking forward to testing this software. I had high hopes. However, things started badly and got worse. Although my PC is extremely powerful and fast, the installation took far longer than the actual file size should have warranted. The look and feel of the web builder software is uninspiring and dull. The templates (the bread and butter of the whole package) are pretty poor. Same old same old. All the expected standards are present: 'Family' with generic pics of people, etc. 'Business' with generic pics of desks, etc.
Editing a template or starting from scratch is a pretty slow process. At every turn there seems to be a problem. Frequent messages appear telling the user that x,y,z must be carried out before a,b,c can be completed.
This package would have been absolutely fine, 7 years ago or longer. In 2008, this is little more than a poor man's Geocities circa 1998.
