Norton is a CPU Hog November 17, 2004 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
Norton AV and PF are rubbish, for the main reason that it uses a load of CPU time as well as RAM. It slows your PC down significantly. In My Opinion, aviod like the plague!!
no nightmares here September 23, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
some reviews prior to my purchase almost put me off until i realised that its not always the software thats at fault. Its usually the user! Their pc may not be up to date with drivers etc.My suspisions were correct.I loaded both cd's no problem. On line i received the warnings and choices if i wanted to view pop ups etc etc.The software updated itself and downloaded patches for newer viruses and trogen horses since release. As long as you keep your pc upto date before installation this software has no nightmares and is easy to use.One thing though!! As with most packages Norton only keep you up to date for 12 months. After that its subscription time!!
Buy This Today!! September 16, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this package a while a go and i have found that it is absolutley fantastic, before i had problems with trojan horse dial-ups connecting me to premium rate lines all the time. I even got a phone bill for 80 more than it should because i had left my computer and viruses had dialed 1.50 a min numbers without my knowledge. I have also had problems with my computer crashing for no reason. But as soon as i installed this software it removed over 60 infected files on my pc and i have never had any problems since. In the modern internet enviroment you barely need to visit a search engine and you could be at risk, you'd be a fool not to buy this software, and at this price its not even going to break the bank, Go on, get it bought today!!
Failed after 2nd week of use. August 25, 2004 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Had previously used NPF 2003 ( though admittedly it was tricky to configure at first - the default setup tends to block ALL Internet access ). Upgraded this year to new (2004) product. Same trouble to get the beast working initially ( had to re-run the Internet-enabled programs detector ). However after running the live update wizard a few times, to keep product up-to-date, it has now failed completely. No joy with re-install and Symantec support site is very lacking and not overy user-friendly! Not a happy customer at all. Best avoid this product is my advice.
Don't touch it! August 10, 2004 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
Having read the mixed reviews on this product I was some what nervous to try it. On my brand new laptop which matched the specifications for the product, I painstakingly installed the product and read all the instructions. The only problem was, when I turned my laptop back on, the system was so overwhelmed that it froze and all I could do was turn it straight back off again. After using a very helpful friend's laptop and spending 4 hours trying to use my laptop, I managed to use safe mode to remove most of the parts of the software. what they don't tell you is that neither of these packages have an facility to unistall the software so you have to do it manually. I followed the on-line guidance and after 5 hours I managed to remove 90% of the software. The other 10% it would not allow me to remove and so I have very irritating Novell error messages every time I turn it on. Not only that, but now, whilst I can connect to the internet via the modem, Internet Explorer will not work, returning a server error - Thanks Norton, for ruining my brand new laptop and wasting not only 30 on software I can't return, but now having to pay for someone to fix my brand new laptop!!!
