Good protection from a trusted name.... August 31, 2008 Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, 3-Desktop, 1 year Subscription (PC)
After using the free editions of AVG and later Avast!4.8(which both did a good job of keeping my PC virus-free), I was offered a trial of Internet Security 2009 through the Amazon Vine Program. Installation took about 10 minutes and was fairly straightforward as the program automatically installs to the Default settings, which are suitable for most users. After installation the latest virus databases are also downloaded, after that the virus database quietly updates when needed. There's an extensive user interface enabling advanced users to customise their settings. The user interface has been the main difference I've found between this and free AV programs such as Avast! in that it offers more functionality. It has kept my system well protected so far as it has a slightly higher detection rate than AVG or Avast!, and the only thing that stops me giving it 5/5 is that occasionally I've had page errors in Internet Explorer which I think are caused by the ad-blocker. I've tried changing settings but it still occurs occasionally. Other than that I'd definitely recommend Kaspersky Internet Security as a good means of keeping your system free from viruses and malware.
very good August 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
this product has kept my computer secure for the last month since i installed it. It is SO much better than Norton which used to slow down my computer so much.

Best one so far! August 28, 2008
This is one of the best anti-virus programs I've used to date. I've even replaced the free AVG on my desktop PC with this! One of the best (and fastest) features of this version, is that unlike other AV programs, it doesn't waste time scanning files that haven't changed since the last scan.
My first scan took just under an hour, and the second took about 5 minutes. That's pretty useful when you don't want the computer kept busy scanning for ages. Also, if you don't have Windows set to automatically download and install updates, Kaspersky will bring up a pop-up list of programs that need updating on any full scan... another useful feature.
On the first scan it found something called a backdoor Trojan. With AVG I had to decide what to do with the infected file, heal, delete or quarantine - but Kaspersky made the decision for me, which was most welcome, as I'm never sure what action to take a with a virus.
I changed the settings to schedule a full scan once a week, as the default settings were set to `scan on demand'. I knocked one star off because I had some installation problems that shut my computer down with no warning. I finally managed to install it on the third attempt.
As far as the firewall is concerned, I left all the default settings as they came. I don't get constantly prompted to take action (unlike Norton), as Kasperksy employs some kind of intelligent thinking that makes the decisions for me (in much the same way it decides what to do with viruses.)
All in all, I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to be bothered with deciding what to do with viruses, or how to configure firewalls, as Kaspersky pretty does everything on its own, and so far, it's working just fine :)
Good security product with a lightweight 'footprint' August 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Kapersky seem to be one of the good guys in the Anti-virus world, their product seems to have avoided the bloat that has accompanied Symantec and even McAfee products.
The product installs easily and updates fairly quickly, it also seems to use less system resource than comparable packages even the free ones.
The only niggles are that it's fussy about previous security products and if they haven't cleanly uninstalled it refuses to install. You can use Revo unistaller to get around this, or manually trawl the registry, which isn't much fun. The other niggle is that it is fussy about you installing new program which can be annoying. Other than that an excellent product, well worth a look if you're worried about viruses/ malware on your PC (which you should be).
Excellent Anti Virus at a great price - and it works! August 21, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can recommend this software 100% for anyone looking to upgrade from a basic Anti Virus to one which does a bit more and cathces not just viruses but Malware etc. It's easy to install and use, takes just an hour or so to learn about in the useful HELP section on the disc and is easy to update and schedule. Well worth the money and the hour or so getting used to the software, set up etc.
