Versatile and user-friendly Backup suite - one caution about installation! November 19, 2006 60 out of 60 found this review helpful
Acronis True Image really has produced a top notch PC backup application here. I had no problems creating, managing and restoring complete images of my hard drive using an external USB device, with all the peace of mind that this affords.
One warning - several builds (or revisions) of True Image 9.0 have been released over time. The latest build is 3677. My retail copy of True Image 9.0, purchased from Amazon.co.uk only as recently as 12th November 2006, was quite an old build (2302) which probably also explains the cheaper price! When revisions of ATI come out you are advised to uninstall your existing version completely and replace it with the new. According to the official Acronis web forum, some users have experienced problems uninstalling True Image 9.0 from their computers and have had to make do with a complicated manual uninstall procedure to get up and running again.
So here's my best advice:
1. Always use the latest build of True Image 9.0 - there are likely to be fewer bugs & glitches. 2. If you have purchased Acronis True Image 9.0 at a cheap price from this site then it is probably an earlier build. 3. Go to the Acronis website and register your copy of ATI 9.0 BEFORE you install it. Download the latest build of True Image 9.0 from the website - it is the complete programme and not just a revision increment (about 75MB in size). Once downloaded, use the 25-digit product serial number obtained with your Amazon purchase to unlock the latest release of True Image 9.0, and hey presto, you've got a great piece of software that's very reasonably priced.
Great Software - Can Register November 19, 2006 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
The software CAN be registered if bought from Amazon. The wilders link relates to some internet companies who give out the same serial number to all customers. The Acronis serial number is used to obtain updates so if someone has already registered you can not update. Amazon do not accept open software returns so anyone buying from Amazon should have no trouble. I bought the acronis software from Amazon and had no problem registering.
Excellent choice for beginners October 18, 2006 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I've tried several backup tools including Norton and Retrospect but Acronis TrueImage is the best by far. It's very easy to use, fast, flexible and has some helpful advanced features that I've not seen elsewhere. I can strongly recommend it for beginners and home users.
Does what it says, but you must read the manual! October 16, 2006 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is good, reliable software. I cloned a 10gb disc to a 160gb one with no problems at all, in a very short time, which was what I bought it for. However, I then decided to create an image on CD R/W for backup but it would not write directly to the CD, displaying a message that there was a media error, despite trying different makes of CD. What I finally did was create an archive on the hard disc split into 700mb chunks then burnt these to CD using Nero. This could have been due to a problem with my CD writer but I have not had any problems before. So, a good product but study the manual carefully, preferably printing it off.
Without doubt the best solution on offer right now October 10, 2006 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
Those extoling the virtues of Norton Ghost need their heads checked - Ghost is horrifically slow to boot of CD (very imporant when your system drive is out of action) and full of silly limitations by comparison. Ghost used to be a great product but it's really a renamed 'Drive Image' (Powerquest were bought out) and has nothing to do with the Ghost of old. I came to this product from Ghost 10 and there really is no comparison in quality, features and stability of the product. True Image is the only thing i'd trust with such an important job.
