5 out of 5 stars Good Entertainment   August 6, 2008
Her Interactive maintained their highest standard in this game. Set in Venice, the player has the opportunity to travel around on foot, by gondola or by boat. This is a big improvement over the previous game "Danger by design" which was set in Paris and gave little opportunity to explore that city.

Nancy is invited by the Italian police to Venice to help solve a series of robberies. Progress is made by solving puzzles and winning mini-games (smoking bees as in "Crystal Skull" and disco dancing). Both mini-games give enough leeway to be enjoyable and winnable. You also get to play an Italian card game - scopa. Again this is easily winnable.

The graphics continue to improve with each new game released. The story maintains interest and is believable. The culprit is well masked and is revealed at the end of the game. There is a smattering of Italian vocabulary required in the game which is supplied by dictionary (auto-translation) or by picture book. Either way there is only a small effort required on behalf of the player. HI should be commended on this approach.

The game ran smoothly on an older computer.

All in all this is one of the better games in the series.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing to the very end   July 27, 2008

I am a huge Nancy Drew Fan and have played all 17 of the previous titles and unfortunately I have to say this is one of the weakest installments of the lot.

The stroyline is OK, Nancy has been asked by a friend to assist the Italian Police in capturing the 'Phantom' and so goes to Venice to snoop about.

The problem with this game is the lack of puzzle compared with previous titles and the fact that progression through the game does require common sense but rather blind luck.

I dislike using walkthroughs to complete any game but found that I had to on numerous occasions and to be honest was shocked at the next step that I should take.

This may not be the same for everyone but would assume that all ND fans would like decent puzzles and a good value for money experience.

In summary, buy this game if you love ND but be prepared to be disappointed.
