1 out of 5 stars Do not buy.   June 24, 2008

We have used Quickbooks for 13 years and it has been marvellous.
But Quickbooks 2008 is a nightmare.
It crashes constantly.
No longer has multi currency.
The VAT calculations are wrong, the support staff are expensive, you can't understand them, they try to get you to make accounting entries illegal under UK law. They ask you to change correct transaction dates, make up nominal accounts called vat error and then ask you to transfer 100,000's into it!!
Their sales staff lie to potential customers and say that there are no VAT problems, but there are, you only have to log onto their support website 'http://community.quickbooks.co.uk/' and look under VAT.
They are not remotely interested in the fact that you can't complete your vat return from their figures, and tell you that next month there will be a fix. With no regard for the fact that we have vat deadlines and face fines for non compliance. They won't pay the fines. They are not interested they have already banked your cheque. Plus they are making a fortune out of support calls.
If you use this software you will have serious VAT problems and massive accountants bills at the end of the year to sort the accounts out.
I should know I am an accountant!!
We are trying Diamond Discovery Prelude and other software, but not this!!!

1 out of 5 stars Unfaithful with your VAT numbers - should go straight in the bin   June 24, 2008

An accounting package needs to work. This doesn't.

I can live with the odd rounding error, but I keep finding old invoices which were imported from Quickbooks 2005 and which this version has decided has the wrong VAT amount - it sets the VAT to zero for some unexplained reason. My VAT accounts are wrong, my statements to customers are wrong.

Bottom line is I don't trust it. I hate the hassle of moving programs, but I'm thinking of trying Microsoft Office Accounting which is free if you join their accountants club.

1 out of 5 stars Installation and after sales problems   June 11, 2008

I have used earlier version (2006) found the software too cluttered. As an accountant it was confusing to see debits and credits both appearing as positives. After sales service is lacking in that when I tried to migrate to a new computer with Vista and it did not work, I was asked to pay for technical support.

1 out of 5 stars What no multi-currency?   May 16, 2008

After using QuickBooks for years and using all the facilities, I rang today to renew my payroll licence. I was offered the opportunity to upgrade from 2006 to 2008, but ... multi-currency has been REMOVED from 2008. The customer services person I spoke to could not guarantee that it would return for even the 2009 version. Although I explained that this was a backwards step, they didn't seem to understand the impact on business.

1 out of 5 stars Don't ignore the warnings   May 6, 2008

I needed the pro version of QB having been on the old QB standard for 6 years. Rather than go to Pro 2006, I thought I'd go to 2008 despite all the warnings on here. I've run it for a month now, trying to convince myself all the time that it's just a matter of learning the new layout and way of doing things. It's not. Nothing seems logical, some basic useful functions seem to have disappeared (eg being able to order your reconciliation list by amount/payee or date), all my templates had to be redone, I can't put in VAT inclusive prices, boxes keep popping up that I don't want and there's no obvious way to turn them off. Truly, you have been warned, avoid this at all costs.
