User beware! June 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Loading this "upgrade" removed all the antispam and parental controls set with my previous package. Had to go into Symantec's website to download their "free" add-on pack to remedy that little problem (without access to broadband, as I live in a rural area, this process took over 2 hours). Also, when you run the updates it immediately goes to express mode, and if you want interactive mode so you can choose what new updates to load you have to go through the Windows Start menu rather than the Symantec window!!! All the new graphics were totally unnecessary. Very poor product development.
Listen to your customers - its not gimme the money & run! May 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a product and what is does I would rate this product 5 star, but some continung annoyances by the manufacturer leave me to downgrade the 2008 product - and with less than a month to go until my very expensive 'subscription' expires I too will be looking elsewhere. I never have experienced problems loading Norton's products, even the on-line switch from their site from 2007 to 2008, so guys I am not sure what you're doing wrong!
The user interface has slowly gotton worse and I am fed up with a lack of ability to customize and I echo another reviewers annoyance at not being able to turn off the program from the desktop. It's also tedious trying to get to the Firewall to check which programs are/are not given access. Also, the big gripe that has been echoed for years is Norton's use of our computers resources and the slowing effect it has....though I read somewhere that this problem may have, at last, been addressed.
I'm afraid Norton, in general, is as arrogant as its big brother, Microsoft when it comes to its customers. Just as Lotus 123 (remember that?) got left behind I am sure I am not alone in seeing a big shift away from people like Norton and Microsoft as oter developers meet the actual needs of customers and stop making change for change's sake. Listen to your customers!
Look Elsewhere This is a Disaster May 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Used the three licence version for a year OK, but when the time came to extend the period it trashed my laptop. Searched for solutions on the web but none were effective. I would not recommend this piece of software to my worst enemy. Spent many hours returning my laptop to day one and then re-installing my software and the last backup. I will never even consider Norton again.
SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! April 18, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Try and save your money as this really is a shoddy and awfull piece of software, I don't know how Symantic have the gaul to even think of releasing this. Even if you have a high spec PC, it will still slow the performance of your computer.
Installation was very easy February 28, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was quite put off by the reviews I read and almost didn't buy the update. In fact the installation was totally straightforward. I didn't have to remove anything, just enter my activation number, endorse the licence agreement, choose the location to save the files and update my account. The activation was automatic. I have used Norton since 2001 (a new update every year!) on five different machines (Toshiba and Sony laptops, Sony desktop), and never had a problem. The 2008 version does run faster than the previous ones (the only downside of Norton in my view). A very good application.
