Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Excellent product!   March 26, 2008

Bought this as an upgrade from Dance eJay5 which I've been using for some time. The program is much easier to use than Dance 5 as the mixer and arranger functionality in 5 has now been brought into the same interface. The range of pre-defined synths and effects is amazing and does almost everything you want straight out of the box. Enable the advanced features and the effects list becomes almost infinite as you have total control over all the parameters of each effect! The drum sequencer is a doddle to use and can quickly produce quality sounding percussion sequences. The bass and lead synths are almost as easy, except that you can only see one keyboard octave at a time due to the height of the display. It's a pity they didn't make the keyboard display sizeable, as it's quite difficult to remember where notes are in the other octaves that you can't see. The sound sampler is excellent, allowing samples to be ripped from CD and other sources quickly and easily. I never got this to work in Dance5 so I'm impressed! The supplied sound samples are good quality and numerous, although on the downside there's so many of them and they're not arranged in a logical folder structure, and it can take ages to go through the entire list looking for a particular sample to add to a song. It's a shame the program can't import samples from Dance5 because they were excellent and were easy to create songs with. Things that are missing that were in Dance5 are the visualisation and the voice modules, and although the voice module wasn't very useful the visualisation module I used a lot. The only other moan I've got is that although the number of features and samples has increased vastly, overall I'm finding it much harder to create songs than I did with Dance5; however, it could just be due to the fact that I've only been using it a couple of weeks and just need more experience. Oh, and although it says it doesn't support integrated video chipsets, it doesn't say it won't work. I loaded it on my laptop with integrated Intel graphics, and it runs just fine! Overall 4/5, due to the difficulty in locating the sound samples, otherwise excellent!
All the program really lacks is an easy way to produce guitar strums, picks and bends - if that was added the program would be 5/5.

1 out of 5 stars Compatability with integrated Graphics chipsets   January 3, 2008

Although not specified on the Amazon page, the specification printed on the product refers to the software being incompatible with integrated graphics chipsets. This is likely to apply to a very significant number of entry to mid priced computers. For example we have just bought a Compaq Presario mid priced computer with NVIDIA graphics. It is not immediately clear in the computer spec that it is an integrated graphics chipset rather than a separate graphics card. The software therefore will not work on our computer. Unfortunately we had opened the product before finding this out.
