1 out of 5 stars Bad Customer Service   December 29, 2007
I upgrade my NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2007 to 2008 following their on-line recomendation.
After that, my computer CRASHED. Apparently it is something with the file named SYMFW.SYS of the Norton Internet Security.
I tried to get in touch with Norton, through e-mail and phone.
    No answers.
Now I not able even to uninstall the program. A complete Mess!
Do not use it, the windows Restore was not helpful either!
I am still waiting to hear from Norton a hint of a solution.

    1 out of 5 stars Wish I hadn't wasted my money   August 1, 2007

I bought Norton systemworks 2007 as an upgrade from NS2003 which was brilliant. I really wish I had kept it and just renewed the anivirus subscription. NS 2007 took hours to download and install but I persevered as I thought I was getting a new improved version. However, my PC is so slow now despite having 480MB RAM 1.83GHz. Norton customer service were no help at all, blaming my PC which was absolutely fine before I installed Norton and I actually have less software on the PC now as I tried uninstalling things I don't use much to try and improve the performance. It takes 15 minutes for my PC to start up and when I try to use more than 2 applications at once or play a PC game (not an unreasonable request)the PC starts to increase the paging file so I figured I need more RAM. I went back to the place I bought the PC to ask if I could buy more RAM and they have told me that won't help. They're exact words were "You need to replace Norton with another antivirus program which will be difficult as Norton is like a parasite" so not only have I wasted 49.99 I now need to buy another antivirus program and probably pay someone to uninstall Norton.

5 out of 5 stars good firewall and security Suite   July 12, 2007

I installed Norton Internet Security about two weeks ago and I have been really satisfied with it so far. The firewall feature is really easy to manage and I am able to work with all programs that need internet access without problems. The program checked my whole system before the installation and deleted several malware programs. It's always kind of a shocker to find stuff on your system you didn't even know was there...

1 out of 5 stars NO individual Parental Control...waste of money   June 20, 2007
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

I had 2006 version, with lovely individual parental control, BUT THIS HASN'T GOT IT. Had I read the last comment I simply wouldn't have brought it. took about 3 and half hours to download from CD and t'internet! I'm going to replace this as it's missing a vital piece of security in my eyes.

WASTE OF SPACE, BRING BACK INDIVIDUAL PARENTAL CONTROL - ALL IS FORGIVEN!

1 out of 5 stars Why can't I give it zero stars?   June 5, 2007

You know you're onto a loser when you (belatedly) discover that there are more (bad) review articles about this product than technical support solutions on the company's own website.

NIS 2006 and its predecessors were trusted applications that have protected many millions of PC's, I have no doubt. They have certainly always protected mine. No longer!

My NIS 2006 subscription expired so I took the upgrade option to go for 2007. Lets be clear on this. NIS 2007 just doesn't work. OK - it might work on a minority of machines but the vast majority of users out there are reporting that it doesn't work. You will probably find that after installing 2007 you need to upgrade to 2007.3 to fix one of many bugs. Don't bother - this will not fix them and is likely to introduce another fault common to most installations - one of the processes in the software will regularly consume 100% of your CPU power and will also do this if you try to run LiveUpdate - you know, that part of the application that is needed to keep everything upto date. Nice! The whole thing is buggy, very slow, cumbersome, unable to update itself and will make your machine very slow and very slow to boot and shutdown.

Add to this the fact that NIS 2007 has less features than 2006, especially the parental control features. They are JUST NOT THERE! There is an add-on pack you can download to add some of the features back, but the per user account configurable parental controls are not available - you just get one set of controls common to all users. Those of you, like me, who have several XP logins (me, wife, kids etc) with various levels of protection set for the kids - forget it. You cannot do that anymore with this software.

Do yourself a favour - find something else. NIS 2007 has gone down the pan and I, as well as a great many others, will not be buying Symantec any time soon. I hope to God Symantec you don't do this to their corporate products or my business is in for a nasty surprise too.
