Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Great features .... difficult learning   March 5, 2006
5 out of 7 found this review helpful

Tell Me More Chinese 5 does have everything it boasts - the hours of lessons and exercises and an oral feedback component... BUT - this particular piece of software lacks a sense of structure to delivering learning, and falls behind on vital modules. It seems to be a resource as opposed to a learning aide or guide. The concept of oral feedback is an enticing feature, but the practicality proves to be fustratingly difficult.

The basic lessons seem short and isolated, and lack the concise explanations and the sense of structure a beginner would need to learn a language as complex as mandarin.

Overall, this is an expensive piece of software in comparison to others on the market, albeit it has many exercises and a vocal feature. It lacks the structured learning, explanation and surrounding details which a book-cd course excels on. It has a vast resource on its DVDs, but I wouldn't use it unless it was to complement a current learning program, or for an intermediate mandarin speaker.
