This is really just to redress the balance a little after the previous reviewer's over-harsh judgement.Yes, it is very simplistic. No, you will not learn to *speak* Catalan by this method alone. But as an introduction to basic vocabulary and phrases and, above all, to the sounds and pronunciation of Catalan, it is really very good. And it also appears to be the only audio material available for Catalan in the UK since the withdrawal of the tapes for Hugo's 'Catalan in Three Months'.
It is easy and fun - not at all academic, unlike Yates' 'Teach Yourself Catalan'! But there is absolutely *no* grammar - so, if you want to be able to form your own sentences you are going to need something like Yates as well.
I would quibble with the price - you aren't getting a lot for your money. If you know any other romance languages well, you could probably cover everything here in about a week.
OK, so 5 stars is over the top - but I also feel that 1 is just, well, mean!
In reality I'd give it 3 - more if you want to share the learing with a young family.
